I haven't had a replay of the feeling and I still don't think it was due to alcohol. You have to judge for yourself, but I'd say don't let it deter you in the long run although a brief hiatus might be in order. -- If you're drinking it for a high, that could be a different matter, I suppose.

The exact same thing happened to me last night. It was from GT's Grape Kombucha. I am a sober alcoholic so I have to be extra careful with this stuff. I don't consider it a relapse by any stretch. But this morning I sort of felt like I had a hangover.

I talked to my sponsor about it and I also read what you guys wrote. So I feel ok. If I keep feeling this way then maybe I should stop drinking Kombucha? I hope not, I love it!

there IS a bit of alcohol that is fermented.............................................. nothing dangerous, just something to be aware of with your alcohol meter readings.... consistent heat will increase its rate of reproduction. Cooler temps slow it. You would have to chug a gallon of kombochu to get buzzed for good - and its obvious other effects would mitigate that...just my thots.........

That happened to me, too. It made me feel woozy, which never happened before. Better to be safe than sorry, I'd say.

I thought maybe it was too much sugar, so I threw most of it out, and used tea with less sugar. That turned out too vinegary. Threw that batch out too.

But then, the weather turned hot. Soon, my KT was back on track.

You mentioned yours was brewed 3 weeks in cool weather. Similar to my case. I recently read that too-cool temperatures can cause harmful organisms to grow, and prevent the right ones from growing..

Hi Folks - Thanks for your thoughts. I got scared away from the K for a while but have started drinking it again with no more ill effects. I say "Ill effects," because overall I did not like the feeling. I think it was most likely because I had too much after a period of not drinking much at all. - John

I too experience the same feeling after not drinking Kombucha for a while. In fact i'm currently experiencing this as I type. I haven't brewed for months at this point and for lunch today I stopped at a local produce store to grab a bite to eat. I spied a bottle of GTs Synergy (the one called Trilogy). I hadn't had Kombucha for a while so I grabbed one with my sushi lunch.

The same warm/slightly buzzed feeling started about 45 minutes after I began drinking it. The first time I experienced this was for the first couple weeks after I brewed my first batch a couple years ago and occasionally after periods of not drinking it. I always just thought it was the alcohol though I know it's only a very minute amount and even though I don't drink alcohol all that often and very rarely in large quantities, it still takes more than a bottle of GTs worth of beer before I'd feel the same feeling.

I did notice my typing was a little off earlier and I felt a little sleepy.
Someone also made the comment that I was acting somewhat more bubbly and happy than usual.. but who knows maybe that's just because I have a 4 day weekend ahead of me:)
It seems to be wearing off now gradually but I don't find the experience unpleasant. Just mild and enjoyable.

I experience a very similar thing, or I should say I used to when I first started drinking it. It will sometimes happen if I haven't had any for awhile too. I get a little light headed and feel a little warm, which could be mistaken for being drunk. I'm no expert, but I've always attributed it to my immune system adjusting to drinking billions of bacteria and yeast. If I drink it regularly, this doesn't happen. Though I readly admit that I have a relatively sensitive constitution, that's just me. Your mileage may vary.

Could have been too strong. K will contain many acids and compounds in it. A long fermentation brings out more of these in greater concentration. THe drunk effect was probably not alcohol, rather your body's way of saying "what the heck?"

Hi all - I've been making and drinking K for about 2 years and recently had an unusual reaction to one of my batches and am checking to see if anyone else is familiar with the effect.
I opened a bottle which was about 2 months old and drank half of it. A little while later I lost my balance and felt quite drunk except my thinking was clear and I'm pretty certain there wasn't any alcohol. I couldn't walk a straight line but could read or work unimpaired. The feeling was not pleasant but then I don't like being high. At one point I sat on the couch and spotted my hypochondriacal partner's blood-pressure machine and tested mine and it turned out to be very low, 90/52 - low but just slightly lower than "normal" for me. - The effect lasted about 4 hours in all.
Anyway, does anyone have thoughts about this? I'm avoiding the rest of the batch because I find the feeling unpleasant.
About the batch: 3 week cool-weather brew bottled with an ounce of a ginger/lemon sugar syrup and allowed to sit 2 months. Extremely foamy and delicious. Glasses dipped out of the brew container with the same scoby do not have this effect on me (and I haven't tested anymore of the older batch.) I should also mention that I hadn't had any K at all for about 10 days or so before the experience.
