Best time to drink?

I understand it has caffeen, so, it's like coffee/tea on the insomnia tip.

In the morning, afternoon?

After/before a workout?

After/before/during breakfast/lunch/dinner ?

    the cafaine in Kombucha is very small. Most of the it is eaten by the culture as food during the brewing process.

    Ive heard it helps some people to fall alseep when taken before bed.

    I like it in the morning and afternoon my self. Clears my mind and wakes me u. : )

      re: caffeine, i've actually read that the caffeine is *not* digested by the culture, and remains in the brew. still, it's not much caffeine to begin with (about a Tbl of tea per quart or whatever), so it doesn't have much wakey-wakey effect.

      still, like you, i err on the safe side and usually drink it in the morning or mid-afternoon when i want that gentle lovely energy lift.

    The caffeine will depend on the amount and type of tea used... but it's my experience that kombucha is best taken early in the morning so that I may reap its energy-imbuing benefits throughout the day.

    It's also nice to take it on an empty stomach.. nice warm feeling in the belly. Others say it helps you digest your food when taken with a meal.

    Because of the acids involved, I would not think of it as a good source of rehydration. Therefore, I would drink it an hour or two BEFORE a workout, and drink water after the workout.

      How much kombucha do you people drink in a day? Currently I'm trying to be consistent about 1 cup, maybe about 8 ounces, with my vitamins in the morning. Is that enough to notice any health benefits? What's your experience?

        i've learned that one cup/8 oz. is enough to get the health benefits. too much in one day can cause gas and dehydration. i find that green tea booch is mellower than black tea booch. i like drinking just before and with meals. it's great in the aid of digestion, particularly fats. i too have read that it doesn't digest the caffiene in black, but it does digest some of the caffiene green. also read that kombucha needs caffiene to be healthy and produce all the great attributes, so decaf isn't ideal.

    It definitely contains caffeine... I'm very sensitive and I've experimented. A cup 8oz for me is about equivalent to a Starbucks double espresso. SO I only have it in the AM.

    You can, however, make it with decaf tea bags...

      To Decaffinate a tea bag:

      Get a glass of water (hot or cold, doesn't matter) dip in the whole tea bag, let it sit for 3 seconds, take it out. Done. All the caffine is now in the water and the flavor is in the bag.

        i am senstive to caffeine and don't drink coffee, only tea. personally i am able to drink kombucha right before bedtime w/out any insominia effects, but it's best to experiment for yourself! i drink about 4oz of it 3 times a day.

          I recently accessed a database of medical articles, and found some real reports on Kombucha experiments! I read a few studies, and in rats, Kombucha has "anti-stress and hepato-protective" properties. Also, even after 90 days of consecutive drinking, rats showed no toxic effects. The dose was 2 ml/kg. I weight 140lbs = 63kg....2 ml/ 63 kg = about 31 mil. This is barely over an ounce. I drink at least 8 oz a day in the morning, and sometimes another glass full in the afternoon. I seem to be reaping plenty of benefits - clear complexion, added energy, happy belly.......hopefully no toxic effects will emerge as I reach the 90 days in a row mark soon. I'm gonna look for more medical journals when I have time...maybe there will be some human studies!

            That stuff about decaffinating a tea bag...
            I read something totally different.
            It's not actually going to remove all the caffiene, only about 80%.
            And water temperature does matter.
            You have to pour hot water over the tea leaves and let it brew for a full 30 seconds.
            The you dump the water and pour fresh water over the tea leaves and brew as you normally would.
            The downside of this is that some of the flavor leaves too, but it'll still be yummy. The upside is that you have decaffination without all the yucky chemicals that commercial decafination involves. yay!
