I was sampling my latest batch of Kombucha. Upon pouring a small amount into a glass, I noticed countless tiny "organisms" swimming around. They looked like mini worms only a few millimeters in length. They seemed to be in a hurry. Anyhow, is this something to be concerned about?
Thanks!

Mon, March 12, 2007 - 8:55 AMThank you for everyone's input! I believe I have "Vinegar eels" according to happyherbalist.com. I sent them an email to see if the SCOBY's have to be thrown out. -

Mon, March 12, 2007 - 9:01 AMFrom the site you're referencing:
"With vinegar eels or worms the ferment could be saved by pasteurization. However, it is my advice to throw it all out and start over. " -

Re: "Little Swimmers" in my latest brew!
Wed, March 14, 2007 - 8:15 AMFor every good site about Kombucha, I have found an equally bad site with crazy information. One site I read literally said... if you find larvae or worms, etc. to just pick them out and rinse off the mushroom. !!!!
Anything squirming should prompt you to throw it all out and start fresh. -
