I took my extras and pureed them in the blender with some water, dumped the mixture over the roots of my tomato plants, and my tomato plants grew to INSANE heights. They were like 6.5 feet tall, and so many tomatoes....

(I'm so sick of eating tomatoes, I'm so glad the season is almost over)

If you want a great face cream, put a SCOBY in the blender with some strong Kombucha (14+day brew) and puree. Then put the applesauce like mixture on your face, hands, cellulite, wherever you'd like some live action culture healing. I store mine in a jam jar with a cloth lid in the fridge and do a masque once a week for about 15 minutes.

Ha ha ha. Well, I definately won't let it get that far. I'll find a use for the babies, I'll put a free-Scoby posting at the Co-Op here. Good ideas. Thanks.

YUP! the scoby will keep reproducing till it fill the container.

heres a lil funny story:

A friend of mine in santa cruz was lazy. lol!
They'd brew in a ceramic water dispenser with a thin dish on top
( vessle-poorus and not transparent; Lid not cloth-breathable!)
just feeding it whenever and drinking it whenever.
(no actual uninterupted fermentation time)
eventually the scobys filled the container top to bottom.
(no feeding tea would fit anymore)
so they composted the scobys and soaked the container with water,
which in a week made a new scoby! and the water turned to elixer!

hahaha
***********************************************************************
i DO NOT recommend ANY of the above techniques!
and i wouldnt dring their brew, ewwww.

Experimenting-good
Thinking cap ON-good
careless and lazy-not as good.

i find that the scoby grows to the width of the container. when mine get really big, it's typically a precursore to the separation (mytosis?) of the mama and baby. you could either rip off the new mama and give it away (put up a piece of paper at you local co-op or something, people will call and you will get tired of repeatedly telling them how to brew it) or wait for the natural separation.

actually the scoby is going to take over you respective living area and then EAT YOUR BRAIN! while you're taking a shower.....

watch out! it's behind you!

Well, you could always give the scobys away, or sell them. Otherwise, if you press the scobys and squeeze the juices out, you get the super premium ultra kombucha.

I've been brewing KT since May, and so far I usually don't separate the mama and baby culture before I start a new batch. I just throw the whole thing in there and go from start again. I've tried to find alternative uses for the SCOBY, but my cats run from the smell, and I didn't take to the stir fry myself....

So now I have 2, 1 gallon batches brewing, and I'm noticing that the SCOBYs in both of them are quite large... In one of them the glass container looks like it consists of 1/2 SCOBY, 1/2 KT!!!! My culture is about to take over, but I hate to waste things!!!!

Does anyone think this matters? Can the SCOBY ever get TOO big??? Or should I just not worry about it? I don't plan on bottling the batches I have before I leave for Burning Man in 2 days... And I don't plan on getting back until well into the first week of September...
