Oh my.....I'm having a terrible time getting the label off the GT
bottles. I seems that it is held on by some might strong stuff ! !
I have tried soaking it in cold water, hot boiling water etc......
But I can't get the glue off.
I resorted to using goo-be-gone. How toxic is that ! ! ! !
Any ideas????

Re: Taking lable off of GT jars
Tue, August 4, 2009 - 10:02 AMI posted about this a long time ago and haven't yet found a link to it.
Unless they've recently changed their labeling, they can easily be taken off in one piece with nearly no residues. The adhesive is heat activated.
To avoid shattering, condition the bottle by filling it with the hottest tap water available. Since you'll probably be sitting the bottles in the sink in batches, be sure to heat condition the sink too so the bottom of the bottle doesn't shatter. After a few minutes, pour this out and replace it with water just off a rolling boil. Let sit for about 2 minutes. Empty bottle and grasp tightly using an oven mit, or preferably silicone pot holder, etc, find the seam of the label and get your thumbnail under it and start cleanly lifting it. Once you get it started you should be able to smoothly pull off the entire label quickly, in one piece pulling flatly from top to bottom edges, rolling the bottle while you pull. For any small bits of adhesive, quickly make smalls dab with a small area of the removed label. This has to be done within moments of removing the label, before the adhesive or bottle cools. Otherwise it just makes a big mess. You can always try to do this after reheating the bottle or even while it's still full of boiling water.
It takes some patience and a bit of practice but it's not difficult to master.

Re: Taking lable off of GT jars
Wed, August 5, 2009 - 5:49 AMThank you for posting that. I tried the boiling water and it still wouldn't come off :-(
They must be using something different now. Usually if you apply BOILING water to
anything it will release..........Not this stuff.
I try very hard to purchase things that I can either reuse or recycle. If it has plastic
(we don't have recycle stations here) I just don't buy it. It cuts way down on what
I can buy but it also is less in the landfill because of me.
I wish it was like it is in Ireland. If you don't take your bags to the store, you have to
purchase them. I think that would cut way down on people here using SO MANY
plastic bags.........SORRY.......... I digress. -

Re: Taking lable off of GT jars
Fri, October 16, 2009 - 8:46 PMAnyone have any tips for getting the residue off? I didn't look up this post until I already made the big mess with a couple of bottles, so the labels are off, but the glue remains. I picked a lot of it off with my nail, but there's still a fair amount left. -

Re: Taking lable off of GT jars
Wed, October 21, 2009 - 4:05 PMThere's a product called "Goo Gone" that is made of orange oil. It works great to dissolve such glues.

Re: Taking lable off of GT jars
Sun, November 15, 2009 - 12:09 PMIf you use the hot water method, while the bottle and adhesive are still hot, use the removed label to dab at it and it comes off cleanly.
otherwise I'd recommend using lighter fluid. Though I recommend putting the lid on the bottle before doing so. That way you only have to wash the chemical off the outside of the bottle.

Re: Taking lable off of GT jars
Sat, November 14, 2009 - 9:54 AMI take off the label as best I can, than I let mine sit in water for about a day to two days. Sometimes I use dish soap to loosen the glue.
